The Context of "The Tollund Man"
About this Poem:
This poem refers to the body that was found in Denmark in 1950. Two brothers were cutting peat when they stumbled upon the body, which they thought was a recent murder victim because it was so well-preserved by the bog. Upon further study, it was determined that the body was around 2,400 years old, from around 400 B.C. during the early Iron Age. It is suspected that the Tollund Man was killed as a religious sacrifice.
